Like many of the game's missions there's a primary objective to take care of here, in this case destroying Rommel's base, and a number of optional ones that you can undertake for certain bonuses. The Allied campaign, for instance, starts off with the British assault at El Alamein. Each campaign offers a range of missions for each member of the alliances. It's suggested that you start with the Allied campaign since it's got a slightly shallower learning curve, but you can go straight for the Axis action if you like. Once you're done learning the basics of the game and the roles played by the various types of units, you can move on to the Allied or Axis campaign. The basic campaign starts off with a short but thorough tutorial. We've been playing a brand new build of the game, leading the land, sea and air forces of the five combatant countries against one another in a series of engaging real-time battles. Though that design has been closely linked with a fantasy world, the developers at TimeGate are adapting their signature design to the more familiar world of Axis and Allies. From a standpoint of game design, Kohan's one of the most interesting and original real-time strategy games to be released in the last few years.
